He’s Paxton Wilder.
Twenty-two-year-old, tattooed, smoking-hot leader of the Renegades.
Five time X Games medalist.
The world is his playground—especially this year—and for the next nine months I’m stuck as his tutor on the Study at Sea program.
He’s too busy staging worldwide stunts for his documentary to get to class.
But if I can’t get him to take academics seriously, I’ll lose my scholarship…if I don’t lose my heart first.
Six unlikely friends on a nine-month cruise with the Study at Sea program will learn that chemistry is more than a subject and the best lessons aren’t taught in the classroom…but in the heart.
I’ve reread this book twice because the first time I was left gutted, speechless with tears running down my face because ugh, this is Rebecca Yarros and she’s one of those authors that has my heart always on the edge of heartbreak. But not only that, words failed me because OH. MY. FREAKING. GOSH. This book was so damn good!! The intensity, the chemistry, the feelings—NAILED. IT!! So, so perfect!! I feel like kissing Rebecca’s feet right now. Then maybe kill her after because this book broke my heart in ways I never expected.
Eleanor Baxter is on a Study at Sea program, also to tutor Paxton Wilder, an adrenaline-junkie hottie who’s won this crazy X Games. You know, the kind of games that one wrong move and you might die in a split of a second. The kind of games full of wild stunts that need a whole lot of practice and focus. But Leah isn’t having any of it. She’s just a girl who wants to maintain her GPA and to travel while at it for her best friend. And her scars ran deep to be that reckless. Been there, done that, never again. But Pax has convincing powers of a god and later on, something has got to give that neither of them could ever be prepared for.
First of all, I would like to say that this book is the first of its kind for me. I’ve never read any sports romance like this! Usually, it’s NFL, NHL, those stuff. But never this. Never this fast-paced and believable I could sense the rush of it all. And never ever this painful and beautifully written.
I love Paxton Wilder. He’s arrogant, confident and so reckless I want to smack him on the head. I love his dedication to the sports he’s chosen and his loyalty to his friends. It doesn’t hurt that he’s so good in Physics I want to hate him. But yeah, since that’s basically what turns his world around, that definitely goes to the pro side. That’s Wilder to the world. The guy who gets what he wants, famous, a trust fund baby and basically has the world at his feet. But Pax—OMG Pax. I love, love this side of him was only for Leah. Caring, funny, still a bit cocky but not an d-bag. He’s one of those guys that I love to see falling hard at the mercy of love because he won’t know what hit him because he’s too busy doing other things.
I love Pax but I have to say that I love Leah even more. She’s one of best female MCs and I love her so, so much! She’s the perfect match to Pax because she can put up with his cockiness. She’s not intimated with Pax and a really brilliant woman. And though it took a while for her to warm up to the idea of being fearless, I was so glad she’s come around and she came way stronger than she was before.
The book started so nice and ended even more satisfying. I also love that there was absolutely nothing predictable about the plot. It had me guessing at every turn to the verge of mindfuckery and holy !@#$%^&*() I swear that plot twist I never saw coming tore my heart to pieces! It was so freaking smart, very good and so freakishly fantastic! Add in the endlessly fun bickering of the characters, the palpable chemistry between them and the hotness of scenes in and out of bedroom/not sex-related, I swear I need more than five stars to rate this! Did I mention this is Rebecca Yarros and I’m an addict to her writing? Even when all she does is to make me laugh and then cry?
For me, Wilder is the perfect fusion of mysterious, deliciously hot, exhilarating and so deeply emotional! This review is not nearly enough to describe how I feel about this amazing book! It is even more intense than a rollercoaster ride! Definitely going to one of my favorites pile! Go get this, you won’t be disappointed!
Rebecca Yarros is a hopeless romantic and a lover of all things coffee, chocolate, and Paleo. She is the author of the Flight & Glory series, including Full Measures, the award-winning Eyes Turned Skyward, Beyond What is Given, and Hallowed Ground. She loves military heroes, and has been blissfully married to hers for fourteen years.
When she’s not writing, she’s tying hockey skates for her four sons, sneaking in some guitar time, or watching brat-pack movies with her two daughters. She lives in Colorado with the hottest Apache pilot ever, their rambunctious gaggle of kids, an English bulldog who is more stubborn than sweet, and a bunny named General Fluffy Pants who torments the aforementioned bulldog. They recently adopted their youngest daughter from the foster system, and Rebecca is passionate about helping others do the same.
