REVIEW: Tempting Victoria by Mina V. Esguerra

I’ve read almost all of Mina V. Esguerra’s books since the paperback release of My Imaginary Ex and haven’t stopped since then. She’s one of those authors that I have to thank for making me embrace the works of local authors, specifically romance books.

Now for her new novella, Tempting Victoria. To start off, I really loved the cover even better now! It’s very Victoria and Nathan! Eeeee!!! The story itself didn’t fall short from any of my expectations. The title exactly captured the entire story. (Get the book once it’s out so you’d know why!) Perfectly-paced events all throughout, a little bit of back stories here and there, the chemistry plus good buildup, hot guy with brains, intelligent and knows-what-she-wants woman, the banter between the two characters (that had me stifling my laughs because the whole household was already asleep), conflict, even the supporting characters (Haley and… friends?)—basically: awesome with lots of temptation involved.

I liked Victoria. She knows music, plans events really well, has self-imposed rules, is very organized and detached to human feelings (and therefore had to resist Nathan’s panty-melting charms). Haha! Aaaand, she’s still in college! There were times though that I wanted to slap Victoria just to wake her up because clearly she has to. I mean, hello Victoria? Why don’t you try to get to know the person first before judging him? Before you make false assumptions? But I get where Victoria’s coming from. She didn’t want to be that girl but I just hoped she let herself see things on her own and not decide on things based on some random chic gossips. She’s totally relatable though so it’s cool.

And then there was Nathan—the seemingly disgustingly perfect 23-year old (WTH I’m a year older than him!) gentleman who could be a diving instructor, guitar player, cake maker, all-around smart and nice guy with his rules by day and a true lover by night. I liked that he knew how to be with Victoria and just be himself whenever they’re together. And knew how to get what he wanted!

I admit to screaming “PLEASE, NATHAN AND VICTORIA, JUST BE FREAKIN TOGETHER ALREADY AND BREAK ALL YOUR OWN DAMN RULES SINCE YOU’RE BOTH SO GOOD AT IT” in my head because like I said: good. conflict!

The novella-length of this book didn’t make it any less stunning for me. In fact, I immensely enjoyed it! Thanks to Mina and to the way her words being age appropriate (just enough amount of smut) and flowing through naturally. Her writing now was different (comparing to her Summit-pubbed books) but it was the good different (at the back of mind I was like woah Mina is this you? Go woman! More please!) and surely something I’ll keep coming back to for more.

Tempting Victoria is published by Flirt Publishing and was previously titled/self-pubbed as Rules We Like Breaking.
