Nicholas Arthur Frederick Edward Pembrook, Crowned Prince of Wessco, aka “His Royal Hotness”, is wickedly charming, devastatingly handsome, and unabashedly arrogant—hard not to be when people are constantly bowing down to you.
Then, one snowy night in Manhattan, the prince meets a dark haired beauty who doesn’t bow down. Instead, she throws a pie in his face.
Nicholas wants to find out if she tastes as good as her pie, and this heir apparent is used to getting what he wants.
Dating a prince isn’t what waitress Olivia Hammond ever imagined it would be.
There’s a disapproving queen, a wildly inappropriate spare heir, relentless paparazzi, and brutal public scrutiny. While they’ve traded in horse drawn carriages for Rolls Royces and haven’t chopped anyone’s head off lately—the royals are far from accepting of this commoner.
But to Olivia—Nicholas is worth it.
Nicholas grew up with the whole world watching, and now Marriage Watch is in full force. In the end, Nicholas has to decide who he is, but more importantly, who he wants to be: a King…or the man who gets to love Olivia forever.
To say that Royally Screwed was amazing wasn’t going to cut it. For the second time this year, I needed a word stronger than what it implied because Royally Screwed was just that—it stood out on a much grander scale of things only The Queen of RomCom can magically pen. It was gloriously loaded with all things royalty, primed to royal perfection, and brimming with emotions—all ugly and truly beautiful.
Nicholas Arthur Frederick Edward Pembrook is Wessco’s Royal Hotness. Apart from being next in line to rule the kingdom, he’s also every royalty should be like—poised, responsible, confident, intelligent and hot. That’s him in the public eye. What the public doesn’t know is that he’s a prince who has dirty, wicked thoughts, quick-witted and flawed. He’s dearly charming and well-loved by people all the same though. Well, that was until he went to New York to escape The Queen’s command to marry him off in about five months, drunk and met the equally headstrong and independent, pie baker and coffee shop owner, Olivia Hammond who didn’t have any clue about nor cared who he was.
Olivia Hammond is the epitome of a good person. After her mother died and her father took the toll of her mom’s death, being the eldest of the two girls, she worked hard to keep her family afloat. But even doing that didn’t seem to be enough. Then here came a d-bag of a prince who gave her one look and propositioned her for money for a night with him. But that’s not who she was nor she’d let herself be put down that way by some prince she didn’t know about. Even when she knew that would help her pay the endless bills she have no choice but to pay.
After sharing one bone-searing kiss and the promise of fun and pleasure for five months outside the premise of responsibilities, Nicholas and Olivia embarked on a adventure neither of them couldn’t let go of. Until it was time to let go.
My. Gosh!! How could Emma possibly craft another perfect story after writing a number of perfectly-written ones was unfreakingbelievable?! It was downright insane! Because this book was beyond what I expected of her and shaken me to my core. You got a taste of her writing corporate romances, you will be blown away with her expertise in creating an entirely different world! And what an outstanding world that was! It was like being transported to a whole new world where everything seems so golden, elite, strict, aristocratic and full of blue-blooded people.
Prince Nicholas was one of those blue-blooded people. And he was totally enamored by Olivia’s attitude to stand on her ground. Nicholas was not so hard to love just like any Emma Chase’s character (uhm, well, except for Stanton from Overruled maybe) because apart from his royal duties in the palace, he’s that character that you’d want to have HEA with someone worthy. Picked from his own choice. Not by Queen’s orders. I can’t help but to empathize with Nicholas’s helplessness because he was really perfect for Olivia. They shared the same things but on different level. And that made me root for him even more.
Different level, how, though? Olivia was a freaking commoner but add in a poor to the commoner and you know it’s a big fat no way to the Queen. But Olivia saw the real Nicholas behind his royal armor that nobody knew about and it was downright incredible. It was like finding something you didn’t expect you needed and the moment you found it, you hold on tight and never let it go.
Nicholas and Olivia’s relationship wasn’t easy given the dynamic of their situation but let me tell you that those moments they were together when they’re not busy doing each other? The getting-to-know-me-and-you part? It was believable, flawless and heartwarming. The chemistry was deliciously heated. But blend in the looming deadline over their heads and secrets and lies waiting to be unravelled and you’ve got yourself another Emma Chase book you wouldn’t be able to put down. I lost count on how many times I felt everything—from the exquisitely-written panty-melting scenes to the equally heart-melting moments, I swear I cried because of too much happiness and sadness I felt for each characters, primary and secondary. I cheered Nicholas and Olivia on. I laughed when they bantered so easily. I cried during the hard times. And I certainly felt the overflowing, captivating love they’ve got for each other.
Royally Screwed brought the epic grandeur and reality of monarchy in the way only Emma Chase can slay uniquely without losing her touch of romance and comedy. It carefully perfected the modern fairy tale plot with her own brand of smut, blended with hope, courage and amazing love—love that wins—without going over the top. Royally Screwed was utterly, undoubtedly stupendous in all its royal splendor, you can’t pass it up whether you’re an avid Emma Chase fan or an Emma Chase virgin.
Bonus? A couple that I loved from her other books got to have a surprise appearance I didn’t saw coming! And it just made me miss them even more! Ugh, thanks Emma.
