When I opened my eyes, I was in a cell, my body covered in bruises.
Not a jail.
I’d been kidnapped and imprisoned.
I wasn’t alone. I shared the cell with Garin Woods, the man I’d loved since I was a kid.
The man I couldn’t be with because of the secret. A man who would kill me if he found out what that secret was.
Someone wanted to torture me.
One of us deserved it.
It wasn’t Garin.
To be honest, I was a little bit skeptical about this book. This is the first time I read anything from this author, but the blurb caught my attention and intrigued me right away.
The story started when three teenagers from the slums of The Heart, Atlantic City. At a very young age, Garin, Billy and Kyle, were introduced to the world of drugs, poverty, violence, In order to survive, they learned that they needed to depend on each other.
the three of us together, sober, earning on the streets and celebrating with our shares. The nights that followed weren’t fun at all.
They were tragic. Devastating.
They were really fucking dark…
Kyle dreamed that one day, She would get out of The Heart, and have a better life, possibly with Garin, who she loves dearly. But something happened that would change everything. Now living in Florida and she has secrets that she intended to keep, for life if possible.
under this cosmetic blanket, I was just a girl from the projects. A girl who had been holding in the biggest secret. A secret I had never spoken to anyone.
Garin was always protective of Kyle and Billy. He would do anything just to keep them safe, especially Kyle. But Something happened He didnt see coming, He lost Kyle.
If it’s fear, get over it. Right now, it’s just you and me and this goddamn cell. The only thing I care about is keeping you safe and comfortable.
Then one call made Garin and Kyle flew back to Atlantic City. That’s where the story really happens. One whole day changed it all. Kidnapped by people who will torture the truth out of them. Will they succeed? What would happen to Kyle and Garin? Who took them?
So many questions need an answer.
This story is like riding a rollercoaster. I have to be honest that it took me awhile to fully appreciate the story. The more I think about it, the more I’m loving the story. The twist and turns will keep you at the edge of your seat. Marni delivers the story so differently that would have you keep guessing till you finish it. I also love that it’s a dual POV. It made me understand how the characters think by going through their heads. The scenes are so detailed; it’s like you are seeing them all first hand. For someone who likes bloods, gores and anything that’s morbid, Marni excites my soul. Though there were few scenes that I didn’t like, overall, it has a great storyline. Now that I got a taste of how good this author is, I can say that I’m totally looking forward to read anything from Marni Mann.
