Never say never…
Romance isn’t an option for Holly Greenwood. With her wedding planner career on the line she needs to stay focused, and that means pleasing her demanding boss, not getting distracted by her mind-alteringly hot neighbor . . .
Ex-Marine Kevin Vandemeer craves normalcy. Instead, he has a broken-down old house in need of a match and some gasoline, a meddling family, and the uncanny ability to attract the world’s craziest women. At least that last one he can fix: he and his buddies have made a pact to swear off women, and this includes his sweetly sexy new neighbor.
After one hot night that looks a whole lot like a disaster in the light of day, Kevin and Holly are about to learn that true love doesn’t play by the rules . . .
The first book in a spin-off from Denise Grover Swank’s New York Times bestselling Wedding Pact series!
This was my first Denise Grover Swank book and I couldn’t wait for more!
Only You is such a cute, feel-good, and light romantic book that I’d definitely recommend!
Ex-Marine Kevin Vandeemer swore off women after being in the craziest of relationships. He hated that he seemed to attract the wrong women all the freaking time. Until he bought a house very close to destruction—literally. His sister’s fault, really. It was so bad that the only silver lining was his sexy, normal neighbor. Or that’s what he thought.
Wedding planner Holly Greenwood has a lot on her plate. With her grandmother being sick, she needs to get on her A-game to do well to fund her hospital bills and make a name for herself. Never mind that her boss treats her like crap. She couldn’t afford any distraction, including her gorgeous neighbor whom she couldn’t stop thinking about after their first awkward meeting.
I loved how this book surprised me in a lot of ways. I was having a hard time connecting the dots but when I finally figured out where the story was heading into, it made me so excited on how the author would entwine each twist she threw in the story. It wasn’t that shocking but surprising enough to let me go on reading until the very end.
Kevin and Holly were good and likeable characters though I have a few issues with both. Kevin who was said to be an ex-Marine didn’t act like one. It was like it was just mentioned there just because. But all things considered, he wasn’t an a-hole so that made him fall under the nice person category. Plus, he liked numbers so there’s that. Meanwhile, Holly has been such a delightful character. It was just that the beginning of the story wasn’t able to warm me up that she’s the assertive kind of woman. No offense meant, really. It was just… shocking, I think? I didn’t think her character was consistent, too. Or maybe that’s just me.
The secondary characters were a bit annoying and if it were up to me, I’d have them removed from the book. But them being there actually made sense that has avoided the story to be flat.
The book was fine in the sexy department. Not so bad, not so great either. It was just enough. The conversations of the characters were fascinating, the writing was great and so was the pacing. It ended in such a way I didn’t expect. But still HEA, so no worries. An epilogue would’ve been great.
Overall, I liked Only You because it’s easy, heartwarming and sweet. I would absolutely read the next books in the series!
