Laurie Peterson assumes her impulsive one-night stand with sinfully sexy Sheriff Ethan Booker is the biggest surprise of the year…until her bakery burns down while she’s basking in the afterglow. It looks like her dreams are up in smoke, but then Ethan proposes a deal too tempting to resist.
Ethan has no intention of settling for a one-night stand with Laurie. Nor does he want anything to do with the women his wealthy family wants him to meet. Not when he’s waited ten years for his chance to make his move. His deal might have strings—and Laurie may not know the stakes—but nothing will stop this sexy cop from staking a real claim on her body and her heart.
I’ve only read about five books by Samanthe and I’d like to believe this one is her hottest and most vulnerable to date. The kind of book that will set your eReaders on fire just from the first few pages alone.
I mean… a man in uniform who knows what he wants and knows how to get it and a strong-willed woman who’s got a lot on her plate and bakes yummy pastries for a living? Also, they met ten years ago when he somehow arrested her.
Hard Compromise is off-the-charts hot book with ten years worth of pent up attraction and complexities thrown in the way to show the human side of the characters. The story was fast-paced, very sexy and even when it’s predictable, it was definitely satisfying.
Sheriff Ethan Booker got it bad for baker Laurie Peterson for a long time now. Once, he couldn’t make a move because Laurie’s way too young for her but when an opportunity landed his way however manipulative his plan was, he took it and planned to prove her that their attraction wasn’t just that. I admired Booker’s persistence and patience to pursue Laurie even when she’s not having any of it and his years of observing her that he knew when she’s holding back. Sheriff’s also hot and filthy AF. Not in a gross, crass kind of way. But all understanding, alpha in the right places. With Booker’s reputation as town sheriff and his family being classy and all well-off put Laurie’s worries into overdrive. She’s the daughter of a slimy excuse of a human being that had so much time doing everything but to love her own daughter. She learned to fend for herself at such a young age and thank God for her best friend, Laurie survived most part of it. She came out sharp, edgy and independent. Only she’s also now very guarded. Until Ethan Booker.
I really loved how the plot showed both characters’ strengths and weaknesses and how they solidly flourished throughout the entire story. All the family drama dynamic was there, too, that added to Booker and Laurie’s dimension. The secondary characters even the ones I would gladly kick in their lady balls were a delight as well. I thought the first steamy scene was a bit of a drag and the book seemed to switch to a sexy tone oftentimes that it kind of felt like they were just fillers that could be avoided next time. The chemistry of Booker and Laurie was lit though and they’re really good at it so it’s still enjoyable.
Overall, if sassy and sexy would have a child, that would be Hard Compromise. It packed a lot of raw, beautiful feelings underneath the blaze and heartfelt romance between two developed characters.
